Overview of the Course:
Blackwork embroidery was made popular in England in the sixteenth century by Katharine of Aragon, an accomplished embroiderer, when she arrived to marry into the Tudor family.
This workshop will give participants the opportunity to learn how blackwork was applied to garments using simple backstitch and running stitches to create complex motifs and borders.
Using these stitches and following a printed chart you will be able to produce a piece of work inspired by designs from 600 years ago.

If you are already an embroiderer and have any of the following, please bring: your sharp pointed embroidery scissors; a hoop, 6-8 inches in diameter; a thimble if you use one; tapestry (blunt) needles; a magnifier may also be useful.
